Dr Marieke completed her medical studies at the University of the Free State. She followed this with her internship at Groote Schuur Hospital and then community service in Kimberley.

Dr Marieke then returned to her home town of Port Elizabeth and, after working in the field of haematology for three years, joined her father and uncle at Greenways Medical Centre. She maintains a special interest in haematology and oncology, but also enjoys the unique medical problems in the field of paediatrics and teenage health.
